- <p> DIED. GILBERT LE COZE, 49, chef and restaurateur; of a heart
- attack suffered while working out at his health club; in New
- York City. Le Coze was one of the kitchen kings of his generation,
- largely by virtue of his unparalleled mastery of the preparation
- of seafood, attained at the very moment fat-phobic diners were
- turning away from meat. Le Coze first attracted the attention
- of gourmets and food critics in Paris at his restaurant Le Bernardin.
- In 1986 he opened a New York branch that became a four-star
- eatery within weeks of its launching.
